Yesterday, I popped into Karl Dawson's EFT training in my home town of Brighton and while watching Karl in action for the 'addiction' section of the training, it illustrated just how often these needs come up.
Nothing like sniffing chocolate or crisps to get those cravings up and to help you tune into memories - that there is nothing like EFT to get those cravings back down again!
When the attendees found the memories, it was obvious to me that the cravings came from a need:
For example;
The chocolate began to smell milky for one lady, which led her to a memory of being six and having milk with Mum after school - fulfilling needs for attention and connection.
The craving for a cigarette meant that the person had an excuse to go for a break when they needed it - fulfilling a need for control.
The presence of a cookie tuned someone into the memories of eating dessert at big family dinners - fulfilling a need for connection and also being connected to something bigger than themselves.
I'm pretty sure that you already understand that many of our behaviours are driven by the needs we want to fulfill...
And we want to meet them in a healthy way...
Now, it's over to you.
I want to give you the nine needs so that you can check in with them:
For each need - ask yourself:
How well is it currently met? (Score 1 - 10. 1 = not at all, 10 = fully met)
How will you better meet this need in future?
- The need to feel safe and secure
- The need to feel understood and connected
- The need to give and receive attention
- The mind body connection
- The need for control / autonomy
- The need for creativity / stimulation
- The need to have status
- The need for goals and purpose
- The need to be connected to something bigger than yourself
Your answers will give you an insight into how well you are meeting your needs and what areas to focus on.
